physical therapy..

well today was jons physical outpatient therapy session..he was a little disappointed with it..he said he was surprised for his FIRST visit that she spent most of her time just stretching jon and chit chatting with all the other patients..he said i could understand that behaviour after like 3-4 sessions but not impressive for your first! he said the types of therapy he was doing wasnt all great..first off she had a hard time transferring him..in order to transfer him you have to put his ankles in your um how do i say upper thigh area..and she was hesitant at first..anyway- it took a while..so most of the time was spent just doing that and because of this wonderful HIPPA law..i cant even go back into the session room to transfer him - so she had to just figure it out with jon teaching her..
so tomorrow im going to call that los amigos one in downey..the other one is clear in pomona and its the OTHER side of pomona..i just cant wrap my head around how i'd even get jon to either of these places 3 times a week with 4 small kids..so we'll just have to figure something out..i will need first to see how much it is as a cash patient..then i will talk to our doctor to see if we can get a referral there..which shouldnt be a problem..then its just seeing if the insurance will pay for it..they do have an unlimited physical therapy at 20 bucks PER session copayment..but our plan is an HMO and so its most likely ONLY wiht west coast spine who they are contracted with..all the lovely world of insurance - not fun!
right now we've had dinner, ive got the girls bathed, scott is still working with jon..soon here i will have everyone in bed for the nite..
jon is doing really well now..the low blood pressure thing isnt quite so bad anymore..hes on his UTI antibiotic so thats helping a bit too..he's working SO hard on his business and his presentation for the seminar..were SOOOO thankful for his family that is able to come out and help him with that..
continue to pray for more movement for jon..we feel that the more WE MOVE jon ourselves physically the better chance he has..so we will keep doing so and find more ways and opportunities to do so..we'd like to clear out our 3rd car garage to put equipment in there for him to utilize with our help..

That doesn't sound right to me, as I am an OT professionally, this isn't the intent of HIPPA. You have the right to attend sessions and contribute/demonstrate info about your husband.

If the HIPPA concern is that there are other patients/family members around, then this facility needs to revamp their treatment plans, ie not have as many people in the room or have a quiet area for you to discuss private matters.

PS- one other thing, since you are his primary caregiver, the therapy facility should include caregiver training to you. They should be welcoming you to attend- this will improve carryover and benfit your husband. (if you want, unless you need a break during the sessions).

Anyway, keep hanging in there. Nita (otchic) from MC
